You Are invited to Compose the Final Song for the Swahili (scrap) Opera

If you are a musician, a band or just talented you can join the Music Competition, organised by WATAFITI for the composition of the final song of the Swahili (scrap) Opera "Utenzi Gerezani"

In order to win the 1,000,000 TZS price you need to comply to the following rules:

(1) The song should be;

- festive, leaving no audience in their seats, it should be

- a little bit "exotic" from Tanzanian point of view (eg. Latin, Caribbean) (listen to example beat Rumba Guaguanco

and

- reflect the exitement/liberation at the end of the story, the highlight of the (scrap) Opera and title song;

(2) The song will be approximately 3 minutes but the chorus should be suitable for being repeated and musically, reflecting the festive final of the performance

(3) The lyrics are provided but can be artistically interpreted by the contestant as long as the essence of the message is not lost.

(4) The key in which the final song is composed is F sharp

(5) The winning contestant will sign a contract with WATAFITI through which all copyrights of the submitted song will become the possession of  WATAFITI. Songs which heavily borrow from existing compositions will not be considered.

(6) Artists of none-selected songs are free to use their songs but the WATAFITI would appreciate if the reference to the music competition and UTENZI GEREZANI production, together with reference to the use of the WATAFITI lyrics is made during performance or distribution of the song.

(7) In the case no song is selected for the Swahili (scrap) Opera a smaller incentive prize will be awarded to the best song, during the award ceremony in Dar es Salaam. WATAFITI is not obliged to use any of the songs in case no suitable composition is received.

The deadline for the Tunga Tungo Music Competition is September 3oth, 2010 at 12:00 noon.
